Worship - Four Services, One Spirit
In the fourth chapter of John, Jesus speaks of worship. He says, “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” We invite you to join us this Sunday morning and experience worship at Christ Church.
We offer four worship opportunities every Sunday morning, and much about these services is the same. They all have the same goal: to bring every worshipper into an encounter with this God who, as Jesus said, is spirit. In all services, music is a meaningful and important part of our worship and the message is always from God’s Word.
However, each one has its own unique identity, and these descriptions are intended to help you know which one is right for you. Childcare is available at all services, and Children’s Sunday School is available during the 9:45 service.
Contemporary Service, 8:15 am
Held every Sunday morning in the Sanctuary at 8:15 am, the first service is a blend of an informal atmosphere, casual attire and contemporary Christian praise music. This uplifting service begins with the praising of our Lord through music and is led by our worship leader David Daniels and our praise band Forgiven!
An inspiring message is delivered by Senior Pastor, Rev. Morris Matthis. This service also includes a special children’s time with our pastor, and children are invited to attend Sunday Singers following the children's time. Worship is highlighted each week by the celebration of the sacrament of Communion. During Communion, worshippers are encouraged to spend time in prayer at the altar. Prayer ministers are available to pray with all who desire it.
Traditional Service, 9:45 am
If you enjoy classic hymns and traditional worship in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, this service, held every Sunday morning in the Sanctuary at 9:45 am, is for you. Rev . Morris Matthis delivers a relevant sermon and our Joyful Noise choir treats us to inspiring choral anthems. Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of the month. Sunday School for all ages is also available during this time.
Held at 11:00 am every Sunday in the Family Life Center, the hub is an intentionally redesigned worship style that includes fellowship, current and passionate music and relevant, scriptural teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ in a casual setting. The worship of God in music is led by Mac Rorie and the hub band. The Word is brought by Jason Nelson, the leader of our Discipleship Ministries team. Communion is offered each week. Parents are encouraged to bring their children with them to the hub. Special activities are also offered for children during that hour including Wee Worship and Sunday Singers.
Traditional Service, 11:05 am
Held at 11:05 am every Sunday in the Sanctuary, this service is for those who like their traditional worship a bit more traditional. While similar to the 9:45 service, the 11:05 service includes elements of traditional worship such as processionals, responsive readings, singing of the Gloria Patri, choral prayer responses and more. This service also includes a children’s time with our pastor. At the end of that time, children may go to special activities designed just for them including Wee Worship and Sunday Singers.
Special music is brought each week by the Chancel Choir. Rev. Morris Matthis preaches in this service. Holy Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday morning at 9:15 am in the Sanctuary at the conclusion of the informal service and during the hub service. All are welcome. Communion is also served the first Sunday of each month in the traditional services.
Wee Worship
During the 11:05 hour, children ages 3 - 6 are also invited to participate in Wee Worship. Gathering activities will begin in room 109 then we move to room 210/211 for worship. Children may go directly to Wee Worship after the 9:45 am Sunday School hour.
Wee Worship meets during the school year. During the summer, kids are encouraged to attend the entire worship service with their parents.
