Women's Ministry

The Women's Ministry at Christ Church seeks to bring women closer in their relationship with Christ and with one another through Bible studies, retreats, special events and programs. Our Women's Ministry is open to all women. It doesn't matter whether you're a stay-at-home mom or if you work outside the home; whether you're in your 20s, 40s, or 80s; whether you're single, married or widowed; or whether you have small children, college-aged kids or no kids at all. There is a place for you.

Take a look at upcoming events planned for the Women’s Ministry by viewing the information below. Find the events that interest you, and get them on your calendar now because we know just how busy a women's life can get!

Need childcare? Limited spaces are available. Contact Kim Ripley at 281.980.6888 x4784 at least 48 hours in advance of any event you plan to attend to make your childcare arrangements! Also and very importantly, please remember to let Kim know if your childcare needs change!

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing,
but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.  ~Hebrews 10:25

Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study is an important part of the Women's Ministry of Christ Church. It provides an environment for women to grow in their personal relationship with Christ through Bible study, fellowship and worship, to provide community outreach and to transform lives. We have a variety of options available to suit any need. There are ongoing Bible study groups in addition to Women's Bible Study and Fellowship (WBSF), which offers studies on a spring and fall schedule. Registration for the spring 2010 WBSF session will begin in mid-January, and most classes will start during the first week of February.

Women’s Breakfast Events

At these Saturday morning events, ladies will come together for breakfast, fellowship, and instruction on a topic that is relevant to the life of today’s busy woman.

2010 Events:
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 from 8:30 am to noon: Breakfast and Organizational Workshop
A comprehensive seminar that will help women to evaluate and define their priorities in six elements of balance, and restore order to their lives! Fee of $10 covers breakfast and all materials. Participants will be invited to contribute a 2010 Daytimer or calendar; these will be donated to Dress for Success, an organization that helps women who are striving to move back into the workplace.

Saturday, April 10th, 2010 from 9:00 am to noon: Breakfast and Fashion Workshop
The day will begin with fellowship and breakfast, and will be followed by a workshop from fashion consultant, Rebecca Matthews. Our outreach effort will stay within the fashion theme, with ladies encouraged to donate new or nearly-new (and cleaned!) interview appropriate clothing to Dress for Success, an organization that helps women who are striving to move back into the workplace.

Women’s Outings and Retreats

Each year during the fall season, Christ Church hosts its annual women’s retreat. This retreat offers ladies a chance to:

  • Be refreshed and renewed in body, mind and spirit;
  • Enjoy a time of fun and fellowship, all in a beautiful setting;
  • Step away, even for just a time, from the stresses and demands of life.

2010 Events:
The weekend of October 8th - 10th, 2010: Women's Fall Retreat

In addition to the fall retreat, Christ Church periodically offers or recommends other outings that allow women to grow in intimacy with Christ:

Thursday, February 18th, 2010 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm: Lenten Prayer Retreat
As a follow-up to the prayer workshop offered in the fall of 2009, the women of Christ Church are encouraged to register for this event to be sponsored by Chapelwood United Methodist Church and held at The Cenacle Retreat House. Learn more.

Saturday, March 27th, 2010: Lenten Labyrinth Walk
As a follow-up to the prayer workshop offered in the fall of 2009, both men and women are invited to experience prayer in a new and profound way. On this day, participants will have an opportunity to connect with God and reflect upon the Lenten season when they travel the paths of two Houston-area prayer labyrinths, and also share a time of fellowship through the experience of a shared meal at an area restaurant.

Women’s Potluck Dinner and “How-to” Gatherings

At these Thursday evening events, ladies will come together for dinner, fellowship, and “how-to” instruction on some craft that is helpful or just plain fun for today’s busy woman.

Upcoming events:
Thursday, November 11th, 2010 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm: “How-to” Wrap a Beautiful Holiday Gift
Learn to wrap gifts like a pro! Keep watching for details!

Women who are interested in being part of a book club are encouraged to participate in the One Room Book Club, sponsored by Christ Church’s Older Adults Ministries.
