Older Adult Ministries
The Older Adult Ministry is relatively new in being formalized, but has a long history at our church. Focused on both members of our church and individuals within our community, this is a ministry of and for individuals 50 years and older, addressing their Spirituality, Enrichment, Nutrition and Fitness, Intergenerational, Outreach, Recreation, and Service interests and needs (S.E.N.I.O.R.S.).
Older Adult Ministries is coordinated by Associate Pastor Kathy Kirkpatrick
Join other Older Adults from Christ Church and the community in going on once a month, off-site day trips that provide Christian fellowship, enrichment, and recreation. Pre-registration is usually required. These events will be publicized in the Connection newsletter and online at this website.
Older Adults are invited to our ‘day apart’ experience at the church, a monthly (first Wednesday of the month!) mid-day time set aside for Christ Church members and the community that provides opportunities for worship/spiritual development; lunch; and enrichment or educational programs. Information about upcoming events will be publicized in the Connection and online at this website. Those wishing to eat lunch with the group will need to pre-register.
One Room Book Club
This group meets in the Volunteer Center on the third Wednesday of the month from 9:30am - 11:30am. The group begins with a half hour of fellowship and then discusses the book. Members take turns being the discussion leader and also suggest favorite books for the group to consider for future readings. New people are always welcome! Reserve your space by contacting Jo Beth Moore at 281.265.6360.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Join members of all ages as they create tangible expressions of the prayers of our church for those needing comfort, healing, assurance, and presence. We meet every other Friday or you may work independently on prayer shawls (instructions and a materials list is available) . Bring soft, washable yarn in colors of your choosing– knitting needles (size 11 works well – or larger) or a crochet hook. If you don't know how to crochet or knit, we will teach you!
S.A.G.E.
Christ Church and Sugar Land Methodist Hospital are working together to bring our congregation (and OAs specificially!) monthly seminars where specialists from ‘our’ hospital will come with a presentation about their field, pertaining preventative medicine recommendations, the latest news in treatment options AND they will bring goodies for attendees. S.A.G.E. or Sharing Advice, Giving Encouragement, meets the second Wednesday of each month from noon - 1:00 pm in rooms 11/12.
Please register in advance. That may be done by emailing Pastor Kathy Kirkpatrick or calling 281.980.6888, ext. 4787 and leaving a message.
Senior Ringers
This new musical opportunity is created for all interested persons. It offers a place to learn, serve and fellowship through the art of ringing chimes or handbells. No experience is necessary and success is inevitable. The instruments are lightweight and always in tune, easy to transport to performance venues and enhance worship offerings. Rehearsals are Mondays from 10:30 - 11:30 am under the direction of Molly Ness. To join the Senior Ringers, contact Rev. Kathy Kirkpatrick.
Many of the Sunday School classes at Christ Church have members that are older. The Jubilee Sunday School Class focuses specifically on the spiritual needs and interests of this group in the context of Scripturally driven studies. Other classes, such as the Weavers, have more intergenerational groups, with members in their 40’s through 70’s.
Retreats
Periodically retreats focused for the interest and needs of Older Adults will be offered through the Older Adult Ministries at Christ Church. Information about upcoming events will be publicized in the Connection and online at this website.
