Disciple Bible Study
Disciple Bible Study is one of the programs at our church most likely to help people have that “a-ha” experience, like a light bulb going on, so that the Bible finally starts to make sense. We have seen Disciple Bible Study change lives as people grow closer to God and develop strong Christian friendships in their small group. Consider becoming part of a Disciple group this year.
The available Disciple classes are listed below. Disciple classes start in August of each year and conclude in May. If you have more questions, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.
Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
Disciple I is the first class in the series and a prerequisite for further Disciple studies.
Being part of this small group Bible study will:
- Help you understand what you read in the Bible
- Help you read 70% of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, in 34 weeks
- Help you grow closer to God
- Help you develop new friendships with others in your group
Generally, this class requires a commitment of a weekly group session of 2 1/2 hours and daily study of 40 minutes.
Disciple II: Into the Word, Into the World
This is a study of Genesis, Exodus, the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. The study builds on your knowledge of the whole Bible. As we study God's word in more depth and detail,we can respond to the needs of our world as we follow Jesus. The title says coming to God by going "Into the Word", and responding as Disciples of Jesus by going "Into the World".
Disciple III: Remember Who You Are
This is a study of the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul. Look at the world through the lens of scripture. The message is God is faithful. The Holy Spirit lives in believers today. Then we better understand who we are and what God is calling us to do today: renewed vision, self-examination, and transformation.
Disciple IV: Under the Tree of Life
This is a study of books from the Old Testament and New Testament. The books covered include Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, Daniel, the Gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; James; Jude; and Revelation. The focus is on invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, and rest--home at last.
Jesus in the Gospels
This small group study invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question, "Who is the Jesus that you see?" This study will deepen discipleship through better understanding of the biblical texts and their message.
Two questions frame this study: "Who is the Jesus you bring with you to this study?" and "Who is the Jesus you take with you from this study?" Jesus in the Gospels takes participants on a journey from one question to the other.
Christian Believer
This small group study brings together Bible study and the teachings which are the heart of Christianity that can lead each person to committed discipleship. Some of the topics that are covered include grace, salvation, the Trinity, eternal life, the Holy Spirit and much more. You will understand the connection between these Christian beliefs and Scripture as well as read some writings by Christians from ancient times to the present.
Short-term Disciple Bible Studies
In addition to the long-term Disciple studies described above, Christ Church also offers short-term Disciple studies from time to time. These eight to eleven week in-depth, high commitment Bible studies are modeled after the basic design of Disciple Bible Study, which has enriched more than 1 million lives. Short-term Disciple Bible Studies make these life-changing courses easier to be a part of for those busy people who are unable to commit to longer studies.
Weekly group meetings are designed to last 60-90 minutes with a two-part video segment to guide each session with interpretive presentations from biblical scholars; contextual presentations and roundtable discussions; and opportunities for reflection, contemplation, or inspiration on some aspect of the Scripture studied.
