Roland Huysman, Facilities Superintendent
I became a member of Christ United Methodist in 1992. In that time, I have been involved with the Leadership of Scouts and Cub Scouts associated with Christ Church and am an active volunteer for the Youth Ministry. I am also a Tenor in the Chancel and Festival Choirs and perform some leadership functions within the Choirs. I direct The UM ARMY camp that our church participates in every year and have served on Member Care, Finance Committee, and the Ad Hoc Building Committee.
I have been in the construction industry my entire career, where I have gathered extensive experience with all aspects of building operations. God has given me the gifts of organization, discernment, patience, and the ability to get along with just about everyone.
As I was nearing the end of my professional career in the construction industry in 2010, I was moved by the needs of the physical well being of Christ Church, Sugar Land. I can only say that God’s attempt to get my attention was very dramatic. God let me know in a very direct manner that taking care of the facilities here at Christ Church was what I was called to do, and I look forward each day to assisting the staff, congregation and community as I oversee this beautiful campus.
My job responsibilities are to maintain the Christ Church building and grounds facilities, serve as staff sponsor for Board of Trustees and supervise the maintenance and weekend staff. I supervise contract custodial service and other service agreements, work with the IT team as directed by Trustees, work with landscape maintenance provider as well as volunteer teams and obtain bids from contractors.
I assure building inspections and permits for operation are maintained in a current fashion with required regulatory agencies and manage the policies for safe use of the facilities. I oversee security systems of facilities and maintain a warranty log of all new property purchased or donated for Christ Church usage. I am responsible for issuance and replacement/repair of facility keys and card access keys.
