Appointed Committees

There are a variety of committees at Christ Church which oversee various aspects of our life together. Many committee members serve a three year term. The class year reflects their final year of service. The names of the committee chairs are in bold. We invite members of our congregation to pray for these volunteers as they seek to serve God through their faithful service to the church.

Executive Council

The main purpose of the Executive Council is to establish the agenda of the regular Leadership Council meetings. It meets to establish the agenda no earlier than one month and no later than two weeks prior to the next regularly scheduled Leadership Council meeting.

Once the agenda is determined, it is communicated to Leadership Council members in a timely way to give them an opportunity to become informed about any issues relevant to the meeting. The Executive Council may also meet to deal with emergency situations as they arise. The Executive Council is required to report its decisions to the Leadership Council and is accountable to them for those decisions.

The membership of the Executive Council is as follows: Leadership Council Chair and Vice Chair; Finance, SPR, and Trustees Chair, Christ Church School Representative and the five members of the Executive Staff (Mike Mayhugh, Linda Summers Pierce, Jason Nelson, Stacey Fleck and Karen LaMotta).

Leadership Council

The Leadership Council serves as the highest decision making body in the church on an ongoing basis and is designed to include as many church leaders as possible. Each ministry area is invited to have one person from that ministry attend this meeting. In addition, we include members of all committees (SPR, Finance, Trustees, Christ Church School Board) and one representative from each adult and youth Sunday school class.

Each Leadership Council meeting is an exciting time to receive important information regarding the ministry of the church even as it provides ample opportunity for attendees to offer feedback. As a decision making body, the Leadership Council takes action as needed. Specifically, the Leadership Council receives and, as needed, acts on reports offered by the Finance, Trustees, and SPR Committees.

The Leadership Council can serve also as a forum for sharing ideas to further the ministry of the church. The hope is that those who serve on this council will bring forward the perspectives of church members while in the meetings even as they share knowledge and insights gained as council members outside the meetings.

The Leadership Council is scheduled to meet four times a year in the months of: January, April, August, and November. Other meetings can be called on an as needed basis.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the oversite and maintainence of all church property so the church can be effective in its ministry. They work closely with the Business Manager and Facilities Superintendent to ensure the facilities are properly maintained and to set policies pertaining to its use.

Christ Church School Governing Board

The Christ Church School is the Mother’s Day Out Pre-School program sponsored by Christ United Methodist Church. Established in 1987 to provide an early childhood education in a Christian environment, it is an extension of the educational ministry of Christ United Methodist Church and is under the direction of the Christ Church School Governing Board.

Committee on Nominations

The Committee on Nominations works closely with the Senior Pastor to select persons to sit on the various other committees. This committee works to ensure that the other committees are an accurate reflection of the diverse gifts and persons which come together as one body, the church. They submit their final report for approval by the Leadership Committee.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee helps create our annual budget with the help of staff and church leaders. It is then submitted to our Leadership Council for final approval. This committee meets monthly and works closely with our Business Manager to monitor our financial situation and ensure wise stewardship of the financial gifts with which God has blessed us. In an attempt to keep the congregation informed about our finances, this committee produces a monthly dashboard and publishes periodic updates in our bi-weekly newsletter, The Connection. 

Staff Parish Relations Committee

The Staff Parish Relations Committee serves as the Human Relations Department for the church. They work closely with the Senior Pastor and Business Manager to determine staff needs and policies in support of the ministries of the church. They also support the staff members in their work for the church.

Endowment Fund Committee

The Endowment Fund provides members and friends of Christ Church an opportunity to make charitable gifts to Christ Church that will become a permanent endowment of financial support and a living memorial. The fund is not to be used for those parts of the Church's established programs which are normally included in the operating budget and funded through the regular giving of its members. The earnings are to be used exclusively for:

• special mission projects locally and beyond the local church,
• unusual expenses for the maintenance, repair, alteration, improvement and replacement of the real and personal property owned by the Church.
